If I could bottle the feeling of a Vermont summer evening, it would look a lot like Allison and Laird’s wedding at Sleepy Hollow Inn in Huntington, VT. Warm air, mountain views, friends sprawled on the lawn, and a barn glowing with string lights – it was the perfect Vermont summer wedding.

As a Vermont wedding photographer, Sleepy Hollow Inn is one of my favorite places to photograph. It has everything couples dream of for a Vermont mountain wedding: sweeping Green Mountain views, a peaceful meadow for an outdoor ceremony, and a cozy barn for dancing long after the sun dips behind the hills.

A Sleepy Hollow Inn Wedding with the Prettiest Summer Setup

From the moment I arrived, I could tell how much care Allison and Laird had poured into their Sleepy Hollow Inn wedding. The meadow was set up with:

  • A simple wooden arbor draped in soft greenery and summer blooms

  • White chairs arranged to face the mountains

  • Little baskets of programs, tissues, and bug spray for guests (classic Vermont summer wedding move)

Closer to the inn, cocktail hour waited under bistro lights and colorful umbrellas. Long wooden farm tables were set on the lawn for dinner, lined with:

  • Linen runners in soft, natural tones

  • Loose, garden-style centerpieces full of seasonal flowers

  • Taper candles and tiny bud vases that picked up the sunset light

It felt like a relaxed backyard dinner party, just with a mountain view you can only get at a Huntington VT wedding.

Getting Ready at the Inn

Allison and her bridesmaids got ready upstairs in the inn, where big windows let in soft, flattering light. Her dress hung on the carved wooden bed frame, surrounded by bouquets in mason jars and the usual happy chaos of a wedding morning — makeup bags, coffee cups, a speaker playing favorite songs.

Downstairs, Laird and his groomsmen were finishing ties and pinning boutonnieres. One of my favorite parts of photographing Vermont barn weddings is capturing these quiet, in-between moments before everyone walks out into the sunshine.

First Look Among the Trees

Allison and Laird chose to do a first look before the ceremony so they could spend more time with their guests during cocktail hour. We found a shady spot along one of Sleepy Hollow’s wooded paths – just the two of them, framed by trees and ferns.

That first look was all nerves melting into relief and big smiles. We spent a few minutes wandering the trail, letting them breathe and enjoy a few moments alone. Then we headed to the open field for portraits with the mountain views that make Sleepy Hollow Inn Vermont so special.

A Vermont Summer Ceremony Overlooking the Mountains

The outdoor wedding ceremony in Vermont is always at the mercy of the forecast, but Allison and Laird got the kind of day couples dream of: blue skies, soft clouds, and a gentle breeze.

Guests made their way up the hill, taking in the view of the Green Mountains. The aisle was lined with simple flower arrangements and petals scattered in the grass. As the music started, Allison walked down the aisle with the sun lighting up her veil, and the entire valley became the backdrop to their vows.

They shared personal promises, a few happy tears, and an epic first kiss that got the loudest cheer from everyone on the hill. From my angle behind them, you could see the mountains stretching out above the guests — a classic Vermont wedding photography moment.

Golden Hour Portraits and a Relaxed Cocktail Hour

After the ceremony, we kept family photos efficient, then sent everyone to cocktail hour on the lawn. Guests mingled with drinks, lawn games, and the kind of laughter that only happens when people are on vacation together.

For Allison and Laird’s portraits, we snuck away for a short walk just before sunset:

  • A few wide shots with the rolling hills and mountains

  • Close-ups in the tall grass as the light turned golden

  • Candid moments of them walking, laughing, and soaking in their summer wedding in Vermont

The warm golden hour light at Sleepy Hollow is unreal – it makes colors pop and creates that soft, romantic glow couples love.

Dinner Under the Lights and Dancing in the Barn

Dinner was served at long farm tables with guests seated family-style. Instead of elaborate decor, Allison and Laird leaned into everything that already makes Sleepy Hollow Inn weddings beautiful – wood tables, simple flowers, candles, and that wide Vermont sky overhead.

As the sun set, toasts began. There were a few tears, lots of laughter, and the kind of stories that explain exactly why these two are perfect together.

Once the lights in the barn flicked on, it was time to dance. The barn at Sleepy Hollow is ideal for a Vermont barn wedding reception – warm wood, twinkle lights, and enough space for everyone to pack the dance floor. Allison and Laird’s friends did not disappoint; the party was loud, joyful, and full of great moves.

Why We Loved This Vermont Summer Wedding at Sleepy Hollow

There were so many things that made Allison and Laird’s day feel special:

  • The setting – a true Vermont mountain wedding view for the ceremony and portraits

  • The relaxed, intimate setup – dinner on the lawn, lights overhead, guests barefoot by the end of the night

  • The thoughtful details – comfort baskets for guests, hand-written notes, and a timeline built with enough breathing room to actually enjoy the day

More than anything, their wedding felt like them: easygoing, nature-loving, and centered on time with their favorite people.
